Hello, is it a WCAG failure to use stylish font (for example old italic font) when developing a webpage?

While some fonts maybe accessible more than others, I do not think there are defined success criterions for fonts in the WCAG.

It is a best practice to avoid the use of italics since they are difficult to read.
